The Certificate
Program for Strings offers eleven-level graded curriculum guides and
periodic performance exams from elementary material through the standard
concerto repertoire for violin, viola, and cello. Each level is defined by
a set of goals such as starting vibrato, third position, off-string
bowing, etc., and the corresponding study material. This program
complements the traditional and Suzuki teaching styles.
Completion of
each level is demonstrated at a performance exam in which the student
plays scales, an etude, one to three pieces, and sight-reading. The
student's progress is recognized through a NJASTA Certificate of
Achievement, accompanied by examiners comments.
These exams are
not competitive; they are meant to enhance and reinforce the efforts of
the average student, motivating them to persevere and even excel in their
instrumental studies. More than fifty New Jersey teachers have sent
students to these exams over the past three years. |
